Our team includes fully accredited and trained Environmental Health Officers who are used to working with Local Authority Environmental Health and Planning Departments.
Colin Brown Acoustics’ staff have many years of experience gained from working within a number of different Local Authority Environmental Health Teams. Staff are Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) accredited with noise assessments carried out by Institute of Acoustics (IOA) members.
Our inspectors will visit and assess the sites of new planning applications and provide a report indicating the likely environmental and/or amenity impacts which should be considered prior to planning consent being granted. Our assessments will consider the amenity impacts from any new development on existing local residential properties and any impacts from existing surrounding operations on newly proposed developments. Recommendations will then be made within a report outlining the areas which a planning applicant should address in order to mitigate any environmental/amenity impacts and how this could best be achieved. Areas considered within any inspection would include noise, contaminated land, air quality, odour, floodlighting glare, dust, pests and other amenity impacts and a full report provided. Such assessments can be carried out on behalf of Local Councils or on behalf of applicants looking to gain planning permission.
Our inspectors will visit, assess and provide expert assessment and report on issues affecting public health. All areas covered by the Environmental Protection Act 1990 including noise, smoke, light intrusion, odours, pests and waste accumulations can be assessed.
Dampness (either rising or penetrating) and internal mould growth are different issues which affect housing and health. Damp and mould growth in residential properties is a common problem and living in damp conditions, or in a room affected by mould spores, is known to detrimentally affect resident’s health. Our team will carry out non-invasive surveys using specialist equipment and provide expert opinion on the type of dampness affecting the property, whether it be rising damp, penetrating damp or other issues affecting mould growth. A full report will then be provided to allow you to enlist your own contractor to remediate the issue. Our team is independent and don’t do remedial work so you can be sure that the information you receive from us is unbiased. The professional advice provided by our team is based on detailed surveying, use of specialist equipment and many years of Local Authority employment experience to allow us to determine the true causes of damp or mould.
